"100% Italian, super natural"
Bread Tree Box Park Croydon, East Croydon
While the name doesn't sound very Italian, but Bread Tree offers healthy Italian street food; the traditional 'Bruschetta' (with lavish Italian toppings), delicious gluten-free 'Piadina' (entirely Organic), and a range of exceptional Italian salads that just pair up very well with a fine selection of wine they offer. In addition to freshly made food (pastas and lasagna included), they stock a variety of goods straight from Italy, among them the most popular would be their Bruschetta Seasoning. In the morning they serve healthy breakfast and organic coffee, gluten and sugar free desserts ... it's hard not to get excited about working on such a project when I personally love healthy, organic food! So, when I was approached to help them design their very first brick and mortar store at Box Park Croydon, we collectively decided early on, that we must extend, retain their farmer's market origin, and pack that fresh food stall feel into this 8 ft by 40 ft long narrow box. Because of the space constraints, we had to be cleaver with the design of the display units that doubled as workstations, among other things. Half of the container needed to be allocated for the kitchen, and the rest of the container needed to serve as a shop front / dining area / market area that showcased freshly made food. To make this all work, we specifically designed a modular mobile work station in the shape of a trapezoid, "T" station", that can be transformed in a variety of ways and maximize flexibility in furniture arrangement. With each transformation, these stations combined serve as a prep counter / display counter / storage during the day, and at night they turn into individual tables alongside the wall which can seat up to 4 people per table. In the event of a private party, the stations can form one large family style table that seats up to 10.
"Healthy, earthy, rich, warm, and SUPER NATURAL" were some of the key words we stuck by through out the design. From selling solely at popular markets around London (you may still find them at South Bank Market on weekends), they've come a long way and I'm honored to have participated in their journey of reaching that next milestone.
